May 2013: Theme/ Thesis Workshop Jump-Starts Section Value Propositions
May 31, 2013
It is no revelation that constructing compelling section value propositions (a.k.a. ‘themes’ or ‘thesis statements’) is a very challenging—but necessary—part of the proposal development process. Crafted correctly, they provide the obvious purpose of crisp communication of, among other things, strengths and ‘why us’ to the customer’s evaluation team. Crafted early enough in the proposal process, though, they also serve to crystallize relevant value propositions in the minds of writers before numerous hours are misspent on unfocused mock-ups and verbiage—artifacts which inevitably have to be discarded and/ or reworked at great cost of precious pursuit resources. Moreover, today’s apparent norm of less experienced proposal team personnel makes this demanding task even more difficult to achieve.
Part of Black Dog Technology LLC’s Proposal Process Innovationsm suite, the Theme/Thesis Workshop provides a group forum to collaboratively jump-start the development of section value propositions. The Capture and Proposal Managers typically lead and hold this afternoon workshop within a week or two following (DRFP) proposal kickoff. Key benefits include:
Earlier development of and focus on section value propositions, driving maturity to the left
Higher quality product due to real-time peer interaction
Team building and mutual support/ teaching/ training for less experienced personnel
Further understanding and integration of capture strategy into the proposal
Of course, Proposal Navigator® is the preferred system to capture and organize the generated theme/ thesis statements for later proposal outline cross-reference and Writers’ Guide/ Reviewers’ Checklist deployments.
